The Star Thrower Story

The Star Thrower

Once upon a time, there was an old man who loved to write by the ocean. Every morning, he would take a walk on the beach before starting his writting work. One morning, after a big storm, he saw that the sea shore was covered with starfish. There were starfish everywhere, as far as he could see.

The Star Thrower Story

In the distance, the old man saw a small boy walking. As the boy walked, he would stop every few steps, bend down, pick up a starfish, and throw it back into the sea.

The Star Thrower story

The puzzled and curious old man called out to the boy, and asked him “What are you doing?”

The boy looked up and replied to the old man, “I’m saving the starfish. The storm washed them up onto the shore, and they can’t get back to the ocean by themselves. If they stay here, they will die when the sun gets too hot.”

The Starfish Story

The old man looked around at the thousands of starfish covering the beach and said, “But can’t you see? There are miles of beach and countless starfish, all along it. How can you possibly make a difference?”

The Star Thrower Story

The boy listened politely and didn’t answer to the old man’s questions. Instead, he bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. He smiled at the old man and said, “I made a difference to that one!”

The Star Thrower Story

This star thrower story teaches us that even if we can’t solve every big problem, we can still help in small ways. Every little action we take can make a big difference to someone. Just like the boy saving the starfish, we can make the world better, one small step at a time.
